Giving to charity and promoting generosity are admirable endeavours which should be celebrated at all times. However, while it isn’t difficult to showcase your generosity at home and while out and about, it can be much trickier to do this when you are at work.
No matter whether you are a business owner or a member of management, an employee, freelance professional or someone just starting out in a new career, there are plenty of things that you can do in order to maximise your positive effect in the workplace.
When you engage in charitable acts, not only are you demonstrating social responsibility and an increased understanding of the wider world around you, but you are also actively working to improve the lives of those less fortunate than yourself and promoting your business or organisation in a positive light.
So, with that in mind, how can you go about becoming more charitable when you are at work? Here are some helpful tips, tricks and ideas to get you started.
We are all human, and while we may want to change the world by ourselves, there is a limit to what we can achieve on our own. Your workplace will be filled with a multitude of people, all of which have different strengths and skillsets. Why not take the opportunity to maximise all of these differences and allow them to work together in order to benefit the people around you?
Perhaps one of the more straightforward ways to become more charitable, raising awareness is at the core of what many charities aim to do. After all, a charity without donations is not likely to succeed, so it is important to raise awareness and spread the word to as many different people as possible.
Accordingly, when you are working to raise awareness in your office or workplace, you will have a similar goal. Sharing your aims, goals and objectives with colleagues, clients and customers alike will help to promote your goal and will also portray your business’ charitable intentions – a win-win situation!
Donations and Volunteering
No list would be complete without the addition of donations and volunteering. There are numerous ways in which you can achieve this objective, ranging from organising a company-wide bake sale or fundraising drive right through to setting up a volunteering initiative at your business or organisation. No matter how you choose to go about it, the positive results of your hard work will soon be clear to see.
In any workplace, community and society, there are bound to be people of many different backgrounds, faiths and beliefs. Of course, as already mentioned, it’s important to include everyone and ensure they all feel welcome, yet it is also vital to be mindful of others’ beliefs and make sure that you are always respectful of thoughts and opinions, even if they are different to your own. For instance, many Muslims give zakat (a proportion of their wealth) each year, money which goes towards good causes and can help those in need. Of course, it is worth remembering that charity should be an ongoing aim rather than a transient objective or criteria you feel obligated to meet. By donating to charity, raising awareness and promoting good causes, you and your colleagues are actively doing your bit to help people across the world who are most in need – all from the comfort of your desk.
