New mums could soon get financial help to put their babies in nursey, allowing them back to work . . . but is it a good idea?
Free nursery care could be made available to mums of newborn babies under radical Government proposals.
At present councils provide free nursery places for pre-school children aged three and over. Parents currently have to pay for childcare for childre aged less than three years, but can receive help through tax credits and childcare vouchers.
The move to plug the free nursery gap between newborn children and three-year-olds is being supported by children?s minister Beverley Hughes and is part of a wider agenda to put the family at the heart of any future election campaign.
