About Mothers Who Work
Mothers Who Work (MWW) is a UK platform for working mothers, founded in 2006 by journalist and entrepreneur Joycellyn Akuffo. For 19 years, it has been one of the UK’s longest-running independent resources for women navigating the realities of work and family life — not the glossy version, but the honest one.
Why MWW Was Founded
In 2006, when Joycellyn became a working mother, she couldn’t find a resource that spoke plainly about what it was actually like — the career compromises, the guilt, the logistics, the money worries, the wins that nobody was celebrating. So she built one. MWW started as a blog and grew into a community, then an editorial platform covering careers, maternity rights, finance, side hustles, and business — all through the lens of someone living it.
What MWW Stands For Today
MWW exists for working mothers who want practical, honest information — not corporate HR spin, not toxic positivity, not content written by people who have never actually juggled a difficult boss and a sick child on the same day. The site covers career strategy, maternity and flexible working rights, financial resilience, building a business or side income, education for school-age children, and product reviews from a working mum’s perspective. Everything is written from experience or rigorous research. Legal and financial content is checked against current UK legislation and rates.

Editorial Standards
Content on MWW is written from personal experience, original research, or interviews with subject matter experts. Legal and employment content is written with reference to current UK legislation and updated when the law or rates change. Product reviews cover items that have been purchased and tested personally — there is no press gifting and no paid placements on this site. If a product is mentioned, it is because it has earned its place.
