It’s that time of year when us mums start to think about the next techhy thing we can slot onto the Christmas list without feeling guilty. Will it be a flatscreen TV, a new mobile phone? Will it be the new iPad 2, or a Kindle?
On the subject of an iPad or a Kindle, many people have the misconception that they are so different that you can’t compare the two.
But the Kindle let’s you do a lot more than just read ebooks, you know. Here are 9 things it can do:
1. Listen to your music (on mp3)
2.Check your email
3. Get directions – yes, if you’re lost you can get directions with Google Maps in the same way you would with a smartpone
4. Listen to a story (great for kids!)
5. Browse books on Amazon (obviously)
6. Look words up in a dictionary – so now you save bag space and get smart while you read, too
7. Read blogs
8. View your own files (ok – PDFs)
9. Play games – great for boring commutes when you don’t feel like reading
10. Read books for free from places other than Amazon – just do a search for free books an you’ll be surprised by how many you can get for free, especially classics from Charles Dickens and Jane Austen if that’s you idea of reading heaven
When the Kindle came out there was a very limited range of Kindle covers on the market – that did really put me off. These days, the range is really chasing the iPad cases on the market, so you don’t have to get stuck with a plain and boring Kindle cover anymore – one more thing to add to the Christmas list!
So, if the iPad is out of your budget, and you don’t want to think about all the apps and options available, you can still get a lot out of the Kindle while you save trees!
