Are you always worried about something – your job stability, the safety of your children, the health of your parents…you name it, you have it on your list of woes…?
Being a worrier can be very draining. It can ruin even the nicest things in your day (and, sometimes, your life) without you even realising it.
A constant worrier can also become irritating to those around them as even a solution they give to the problem is ignored.
If you want to break the cycle of worry, here are four tips to help you:
- Write down the things that worry you
The first step to dealing with any issue is to work out the cause. So, in the case of dealing with worrying, you’ll need to identify what worries you the most – and writing it down can be a real wake-up call. - Remind yourself that not all your worries are going to materialise
Worries are not necessarily logical or rational – the fact that you worry about your child being looked after properly at nursery, for example, doesn’t mean that they are being mistreated. While your feelings of worry is a valid emotion, it nat also be irrational (in other words, your worry may just be your mind playing tricks with you, or you iver-thibking the worst possible scenario in a situation. - Make a plan of action
Now that you have written down your worries, don’t just sit there and let the list compound the issue, or be your justification for worrying.Instead, use your list to make a sensible plan on how to address those worries. For example, if your older child frequently goes home after school and you’re worried about their safety during the darker winter evenings, give then a mobile phone so you can always keep in touch. That way, you have a point of contact to check their safety. You can even agree that she sends you a text message at different points of the journey home to give you even more peace of mind.
- Learn to let go
Letting go is key to overcoming worry and all the stress that comes with it.After you’ve done everything you could, there is already no point in being in anguish over life’s many details and tasks, and if you’ve taken the necessary steps detailed above, then you really have done all you can so let go and enjoy your life!
