Are you stuck when it comes to finding affordable activities for the family that are fun and worth the effort?
London remains a popular destination for family breaks as there’s an array of things to see and do all year round, from taking in some of the most iconic landmarks in the world to going to watch West End musicals.
Here are a few suggestions on the best places to visit while in the capital.
Science Museum
First up is the Science Museum, which is one of many free attractions in the city that make staying in London more affordable for parents. There are a wide variety of exhibitions covering a range of different topics located here including everything from space travel to psychology. The museum is packed to the rafters with interesting galleries and hands-on displays. As an added bonus it’s also practically right next door to the…
Natural History Museum
That’s right, the Natural History Museum and Science Museum can both be found next to each other in the borough of Kensington, making it the perfect place to spend a full day. What’s more, Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens are both close by, so you can enjoy a picnic in the sun or let the kids run around and blow off some steam after you’ve satisfied their seemingly-unquenchable thirst for knowledge. Learn about animals of all shapes and sizes past and present at the Natural History Museum, with the dinosaur skeletons a particular favourite for many visitors.
National Maritime Museum
Greenwich is another area of London ideal for culture vultures of all ages. Here you’ll find the National Maritime Museum, Royal Observatory and the newly-restored Cutty Sark, which is set to reopen this April. This cluster of attractions are probably better suited to older children when compared to the likes of the Natural History Museum and Science Museum, but that’s not to say you shouldn’t take the little ones to this part of London to discover more about our rich maritime history.
Trip to the West End
London’s West End is a hive of activity and there are currently a few theatre productions well worth checking out that’ll keep you and the children entertained for hours. Buying Wizard of Oz tickets or tickets to see other family-friendly shows like Matilda The Musical could be a great way of planning a surprise, especially if you have kids who like the film version of current West End productions. A trip to the theatre, particularly among the glitz and glamour of the West End, will live long in the memory and could really put the seal on a fantastic few days in London.
