Government may put hold on extending flexible working for parents as credit crunch puts a strain on small businesses

Family-friendly reforms of the workplace are under threat as the Government seeks ways of helping businesses weather the economic turmoil, it was claimed today.

A moratorium has been placed on plans including an expansion of flexible working for those with children and an extension of maternity leave.

The review has reportedly been ordered by Lord Mandelson, who was appointed Business Secretary just over two weeks ago.

The former European trade commissioner was telling officials to be “completely focused on getting UK business through the present economic downturn and emerging stronger on the other side”.
