For those of you who are considering creating an office in your home, it can be a challenge to decide how to go about decorating it. Perhaps you already have a home office and are looking to give it a re-vamp? Or maybe you just want to make efficient use of a spare room. Whatever the reason, sprucing up your office invites many decisions.

Many offices adopt a sleek look, while others tend to appear more structured and clinical. These designs are arguably more favourable, as the more minimalist the design, the less distracting your surroundings, ergo, the more efficient your output will hopefully be.

Finding relatively low-cost office furniture to match this type of design is quite easy. When shopping around, seek out an office chair that is ergonomic, which will conveniently provide support to your office furniture as well as comfort. If you run your business from home and you’re going to be spending a lot of time at your desk, it’s important to ensure that you invest in the correct office supplies.

In terms of storage to suit the minimalist design, there are many options to choose from. Storage cabins make the best use of your space effectively and cheaply, along with helping you clear clutter and from your office, as well as maximising organisation. Make sure you also file all of your paper, envelopes, business labels and all other office supplies in your filing cabinet or storage spaces for a tidier work space.

By only keeping in your home office the things you require for a functioning workspace, you will be best placed to keep your office separate from your home life.

However, many prefer a multi-purpose workspace and like to mix their personality into the d?cor. For example, hanging some of your favourite pieces of art from the walls, or sitting framed photos or your kids’ drawings on your desk.

If this is best suited to you, then make sure you design a room that will inspire you. Select a colour to boost your mood, position your office furniture into the natural light and use pin boards and loaded book shelves to exude character. Potted plants and comfy cushions or throws in a soft chair will also add a homely touch.

Ensure that you utilise your work space efficiently, by seeking out areas of the room that would be perfect for your line of work. For example, if you spend a lot of time writing or typing, a smaller office desk may be better for you. However, if you tend to do a lot of mind mapping and spreading out of sheets and plans, give yourself a larger desk to accommodate your office supplies, and less recreational space.

As long as you create an environment that’s suited to your work, mind frame and personality, you’re sure to feel relaxed and focus in your newly made-over office space.
