While you may not have the tattoos on your arms, this Vivien of Holloway (www.vivienofholloway.com) polka dot pencil dress could work in a creative envirnoment.

Have you got a job in one of the creative industries and don’t know what to wear to work? Working in marketing, advertising, publishing and media often means that you don’t dress traditionally, and while you may wear a trendy suit to the job interview (and that’s fine!), what do you wear to work when you actually get the job?

These industries will have a creative flair in their personality and they will be very trend conscious and will follow the fashion trends very carefully, some employees will even start a trend in the office.

You will find the environment of a creative organisation will be more causal as their employees tend to be younger – you may have seen this during your interviews.

Being a working mum doesn’t mean that you have to be the new frumpy addition to the office, but you may not necessarily want to wear hotpants with bright coloured tights or leggings just to blend in, either! Imagine the looks at the school gate when you drop off or pick up the kids.

Lisa Talbot (www.lisatalbot.co.uk), personal and corporate style consultant,  recommends these wardrobe must haves:

  • Jeans – you can smarten them up with a smart top or blazer
  • Oversized blazer – use this to give a professional edge to your overall look
  • Leggings – worn with tunics and short dresses can keep you looking trendy
  • Tunic tops – a real essential because they look smart and fashionable
  • Dresses –  you can’t have too many dresses
  • Jumpers –  keep out the autumn and winter chill
  • Accessories – these will play a major part in your working wardrobe and can make the same outfit look a little different, so you get more looks out of them.
