How to keep warm in winter without spending a fortune on energy bills

As the energy companies get ready to ramp up their prices just as the cold weather sets in, families will be looking for ways to keep warm. Here are some tips:

Get moving
It might not be the first thing that comes to mind – you’ll probably want to curl up in bed, but a brisk walk to the shops, cleaning the house or anything you can do to keep moving will be a great help as it will keep you warm and active.

Wrap up warm

Clothes play a crucial role in keeping warm. The trick is to layer up – you can achieve these quite easily with some smart cardigans and trendy jumpers, which you can take off when. You feel too hot.

Fleece may not seem all that
glamorous but they are excellent for keeping warm. Fleece lined jackets or coats are a great way of keeping warm without heavy layering, this fleece lined jacket from Cotton Traders is a great example of this. Jackets made from other fabrics like wool and polyester are also great for staying warm.

A good women’s jacket or coat is worth spending a little bit more as you’ll get what you pay for. Make sure the coat has a lining, as mentioned before a fleece lined jacket or coat is great as you will be warm without layering too much, however if fleece isn’t for you here is a tip to make sure you’re a buying a good coat/jacket – check fabric of the coat/jacket and make sure you can’t see through the fabric, because that’s a sure sign that the cold will get in!

For this reason it is worth spending a little extra as a good coat or jacket can last for years and save you a lot more as you won’t need a new coat.
When you’re dressing for work or outing, it is easy to reach for that trusty pair of black trousers that you wear all year round, which probably won’t be thick enough for a very cold weather. Our advice to you is that it’s always worth investing in a pair with dense fabric.

Retailers offer a variety of stylish women’s trousers that are perfect for the winter months like these Cotton Traders cord trousers, thick and of good quality it will help you brave the cold this winter.

One must is a good pair of slippers for lounging around. Keeping your feet warm stops the warmth escaping and making you feel cold.

Eat the right food
Cold weather equals warm or hot foods and hot drinks. Having at least one hot meal a day will go a long way.

Keep your home warm

Most energy companies recommend a temperature of 21 degrees Celsius.

Keep out the draught by insulating your home wherever possible – draught excluders can be purchased quite cheaply online and can be fixed to the bottom of doors. You can also attach draught-proofing strips to windows and the bottoms of doors.
