Have you been at home with the kids for what seems to be like an eternity? Is your first or last youngest child off to school in September ?
Being a mum of three ( Robert now 22, and twins Tomas and Maisie seven) I know when the new term starts in September and your little ones are off to ‘big’ school it makes you start thinking about what are you going to do withnyour time, and the word ‘work’ pops into your head.
This is an amazing time and such an exciting chapter for you to embrace joining the workforce if you’ve had a break for a while.

Did you know you make an impression in the first seven seconds of meeting someone?
I would recommend for an interview or informal meeting that you dress appropriately – and smart. Every industry has its own dress code, for example:
- Advertising/Marketing/PR – smart but creative
- Office role – smart/Casual
- Teaching assistant/working in a junior school – smart but warm and welcoming
Make sure you choose outfits that will make you look like you are ready to start work, and that you belong to the organisation.
Recommended interview outfits
Interviews are often the first time you meet your prospective employers, and it’s therefore important to make the best impression you can.
Here are some ideas on what to wear:
• empire line or shirt dress (suits all body shapes), jacket/cardigan and patent platform court shoes
• black boot leg trousers (suits all body shapes), shirt, jacket/cardigan
• an a-line skirt (suits all body shapes), top/shirt and peeptoe shoes
• natural looking make up, well manicured nails
• accessories
• a SMILE!
And please don’t feel nervous – us mums we have skills no other person other people often don’t have in the same abundance. We are organised, have great project management skills, presentation skills, are great at relationship building, agpnger management…the list goes on!
