Research conducted by Dr Tim Leunig of LSE, has identified a new breed of enterprising female entrepreneur ? the ?Kitchen Table Tycoons? – who successfully juggle the roles of mother and mogul.
The findings show that theses female entrepreneurs, more than a third of whom are aged between 26 and 30-years-old, are making a tangible impact on the British economy; at a combined turnover of ?4.4 billion, that exceeds some FTSE 100 companies.
However, life isn?t all plain sailing for business mums as they still strive to juggle a successful business with a harmonious home life. 74 per cent of women who started a business after giving birth, did so when their child two and under, and more than a quarter agree that they struggle to make quality time for their partner.
These mums aren?t just stepping into business without the back up. Sixty-five per cent had the relevant skills and training before they set up their new venture.
Over a third (38 per cent) found that pursuing their ?big idea? has allowed them to juggle a career and motherhood.
Regardless of the ups and downs they faced, three quarters of those questioned currently feel ?satisfied? or ?very satisfied? with their business; with two thirds (66 per cent) more satisfied than in previous jobs.
