There is a saying that talking to oneself is the first sign of madness, but self-talk can be a great step to take when you want to make yourself happy.
I’m not suggesting for a moment that you sit on the train or bus having a full-on conversation with yourself…that probably would be madness, so here is how to do it.
How self-talk works
Self-talk is when a person communicates with themselves verbally or in written forms. You can brainstorm and think through things that are pertinent to you, be it your career, marriage, business, or even how you relate to your children. It will help you to find new ideas and potential answers to problems. People use it to help resolve financial problems, relationships, and other problems going on in their lives. You, too, can benefit from self-talk.
When you write your feelings down it can help you to express your thoughts and to develop new ideas so that you can find answers to your problem.
What happens with self-talk
Sometimes, we worry about things we have no control over, or things that we really don’t need to worry about. For some people, simple things such as worrying about missing a television program. Some people worry for no reason at all, and self-talk can be used to find laughter after realising what we do.
Self-talk is more than just verbal communication with self. It comes in the form of writing. It’s a great way to deal with problems head on – and it’s cheaper than seeing a therapist. It’s a bit like writing a diary, but instead of feeling sorry for yourself, you can use it to work through the problems and talk yourself into a positive solution.
