Must-haves for serious working mums

We all need a helping hand sometimes – being a mum isn’t easy…but when you add work to it, it it’s even harder! Here are some gadgets to help make life as a working mum a little easier.

Now you can really multitask and your clients won't know aby different!

A decent bluuetooth headset
Somewhere between cokking, cleaning, doing the school run and just staying aflot, you’ll be trying to work, too. We all know how great multi-taskers we mothers are, so taking business calls while on the go is a doddle.

All you need is a good, reliable bluetooth headset to help you along the way – and one that can block out the kids! In comes the Jabra BT530 (www.jabra.com).

I particulalry like this headset because it is very dinky in size, and very light to wear.? It has a NoiseBlackout technology which actually works – I tested it with a newborn and four-year-old in tow! Plus, you can also listen to music with it between phone? calls.

I also tested out the Jawbone (www.jawbone.com), which has the Noise Assassin technology to block out noise, too. This another good bluetooth headset, but is a bit bulkier than the Jabra. However, it more than makes up for this in the syle takes.

Get organised
Not many mums can live without a diary – there are so many dates to remember for work, for little one;s immunisations, parent’s evening, hubby’s conference away, godson’s birthday…sometimes there isn’t enough space to fit it all in the diary – I’ve had to use post-it notes to cram in all in at times!

Well thankfully there is help at hand, and from a brand we all know and trust – Filofax (www.filofax.co.uk). It’s Family Organiser is perfect for busy parents, with pages for babysitters, holidays, sports and club details…even your pet’s busy schedule has a slot.

filofax-family-organiser-pages_-_17-_23What I especially like about this organiser is that in the diary, there is a morning, midday and evening slot, and then underneath that for each day) there is space for family, meals (great if you are keeping a food diary) and even memories. It’s set out in a weekly view across two sheets, so you can get a snapshot of the whole week in one go.

You can buy the Family Organiser pack and fit it in a personal or A5 (my favourite format) Filofax diary if you’re a user or buy it as an organiser for a few pounds extra.

A vacuum cleaner that works while you sleep
Getting rid of just one household chore can save time to relax a little (or give us more time to do the other 100!). That’s why this Domotec Roomba 560 Robot bagless vacuum cleaner is every working mum’s dream!

It will do everything except the shopping – clean four rooms on a single charge, and it won’t topple down stairs, as it’s programed to avoid drop-offs, and you can set a prrogramme for it to clean seven days a week. It’s so smart that it return to it’s charging base before the battery runs out!

Grocery shopping from your iPhone
You can do just about everything on your iPhone these days – so grocery shopping shouldn’t be any different. Imagine being on that boring commute to work, and knowing that you’ve scheduled your shopping to be dropped of when you get home from work? No queing up, no fighting the temptation to avoid the cakes and pastries, saving money by sticking the the shopping list – it’s perfect all round.

At least that’s what Opodo (Waitrose’s delivery arm) thinks. The Ocado On The Go the application is the first of it’s kind and is available on both the iPhone and the iPod Touch, enabling mums who want to do it all to shop for their food and household goods at anytime, anywhere.? It even allows you to continue shopping when you lose reception, say going on the Tube.

Find Ocado On The Go by searching for the Ocado application on the iPhone?s Applications menu.
