While teenage pregnancies are at a twenty-year all time low, pregnancies of the over-40s are higher than ever.
New figures from?The Office of National Statistics has?shown that between 2005 and 2006, the pregnancy rate?amongst older women increased by over 12% per thousand.
Even though teenage pregnancies in the UK have decreased, the rate of pregancy is still the highest in Europe.
The statistics also reflected alternative lifestyles and changing attitudes to marriage, with over half of all pregnancies being?outside of marriage.
