If you want to stay ahead of your children’s next technology demands, then you’ll want to find out all about the Nintendo 3DS.

Nintendo 3DS will be hitting the shops this month and is the latest portable games console from Nintendo. The console makes use of a new advance in technology called ‘autostereoscopy’. This means that it can produce three-dimensional effects without the need to wear any special 3D glasses.

The Nintendo 3DS is the successor to the hugely popular Nintendo DS and will be compatible with your child’s existing software from the DS and DSi series, but they will now be able to play games in 2D and 3D.

The 3DS has built-in motion and gyro sensors that react to tilt and motion of the device when motion-compatible games are played. To maximise the 3D experience, the top screen on the 3DS benefits from widescreen display with 800×240 pixel resolution. Both screens display 16.77 million colours. The console also sports a 3D camera allowing 3D photos to be taken with a similar effect to the 3D games.

Further features on the Nintendo 3DS include StreetPass, where your child can share data such as characters and high scores with other Nintendo 3DS owners. Then there is SpotPass, which will give the 3DS wifi access, so your child will be able to obtain game data and download free software.
