Product review: pushchairs that won’t break your back

Recent research has found that 83% of mums suffer back pain because of carrying and caring for young children. But it’s not just lifting young kids that causes problems – it’s manouvering, carrying and lifting heavy or poorly designed pushchairs. We’ve selected some of out favourite buggies below that have been designed with weight and convenience in mind.

Maclaren – Volo (www.maclaren.co.uk)

Maclaren Volo

Why we like it
Maclaren are great at making strollers that don’t look (or feel) cheap and flimbsy. The Volo is no exception to that rule, and it comes in a bright and fun yellow colour. Plus, it has the signature Maclaren five-second, one-hand fold, which is great if you’re carrying a young child and folding it at the same time!

Why we like it
This comes in a variety of colours, and although it is very sturdy and durable it only weighs a very light 6.5kg. It has a shoulder strap, which is testament to how light it is, and we like the cup holder, too.

Why we like it
Not only are the colours retro and funky, these buggies are fun to use as well. They are nice and solid, but can be easily pushed with one had, and are very lightweight, too.

Quinny – Zapp (www.quinny.com)

Why we like it
This is a very lightweight pushchair – the lightest we tested, and it’s the one that looks the most stylish. And when folded, it’s so small that you’d be forgiven for thinking it was a doorstop or something other than a pushchair. It comes in some fun bright colurs, too, and you can manoeuvre it with one hand.

Tippitoes – Move (www.tippitoes.com)

Why we like it
A lot of strollers do not come with the largest of baskets, and we like this pushchair because it has a decent-size basket. It also has front swivel wheels, so you don’t have to tilt the pushchair backwards whenever you have to turn a corner! It also has the added bonus of a removable hood, which is great for those sunny days – a lot of stroller come with a fixed hood or none at all.
