Just a few weeks ago us working mums were said to supposedly not giving our children as healthy a meal as we could – unlike or stay-at-home mum counterparts.
According to the research that caused the uproar, not only does working mean that our children don’t get enough exercise, watch too much TV and drink more fizzy drinks than those children whose mums do not work, we also give them fast food and other unhealthy foods instead of cooking! I know it’s very annoying – that’s why when various BBC radio shows approached me for a comment, I felt the need to fight the corner for working mums.
One a plus note (and not because of this research I might add!) supermarket chain Waitrose has produced a six-episode webseries, ‘The Everyday Kitchen’, to demonstrate how quick and tasty culinary achievements can be an everyday feature in your kitchen, despite the time-consuming tribulations of family life.
The Everyday Kitchen features Waitrose’s executive chef Neil Nugent, nutritionist Moira Howie and real mums. The series will cover everything from how to take the stress out of Sunday lunch to bringing back the love for the lost art of baking.
Each ‘webisode’ will be accompanied by hints and tips from mums, alongside recipes for the featured dishes, allowing viewers to have a go and follow along in their own kitchen.
