Why boys lag behind girls at school

The toxic effect of modern life hits boys at the age of five and leaves them struggling at every stage of education, it was claimed.

Dr Leonard Sax, the US academic, is calling for single-sex lessons throughout primary and secondary school to allow boys to learn at their own pace.

His comments will fuel debate over the continuing gender gap in education.
