Hands up those of you who have gone back to work after maternity leave to find that you maternity cover has stolen your thunder? Well that’s exactly what’s happened to Five presenter Natasha Kaplinsky.
Natasha Kaplinsky became the nation’s highest paid newsreader when Five gave her a ?1million deal. Her debut led to a leap in ratings dubbed the ‘Natasha effect’, but it now seems audiences prefer a presenter paid around a tenth of her salary.
Ratings for Five News 5pm bulletin have slumped by more than 10 per cent since Miss Kaplinsky returned to the screen in February after maternity leave.
