We all need a break, but sometimes going abroad just isn’t going to happen. So. Do you stay at home and do nothing, or find something to make it as enjoyable an experience as possible?

1. Tipis or teepees
   Tipis or teepees, as they are also called, look similar to totem poles and make a fantastic alternative to camping. They were first made by Native Americans, but these days contain cushions, rugs, trunks for storage, wooden floors, rain caps.

   They’re great for little boys who like a bit of an adventure and it will definitely take you higher up the cool stakes.

2. Holiday parks and resorts
   
   Generally UK August holidays are the best time for families because it’s the time when other families with children are travelling, so you can meet other people.

   Holiday parks and resorts are often looked down upon as a cheaply holiday, but they are put together perfectly for the whole family – mum and dad get some evening entertainment, and there are lots of activities for children of all ages.

3. Self-catering lodges and cottages
   One of the downsides of travelling abroad or in the UK is the cost of food, and not having anywhere comfortable to relax. But, with self-catering lodges and cottages, you can get the best of both worlds – a holiday packed full of as much sightseeing and activities as you want, plus somewhere homely to comeback to.

   Destinations like Devon, Cornwall and Somerset are great for families with young children, as you can visit farms, cycle, go walking and nature hunt.

4. Weekend and short city breaks
   Sometimes, your calendar won’t allow for a whole week off work in one go and a weekend or short city break is the closest you can get to a holiday.

   You can find some fantastic deals online with the likes of Groupon and many of the breaks are tailored to families. Dudley, for example, has a zoo, museum and lost of old country sights to see.
