A newborn boy died after a ‘holistic’ midwife delayed sending his mother to hospital during a home birth, a hearing was told today.
Deborah Purdue, 47, failed to monitor the woman and ignored clear warning signs the baby was in distress, the Nursing and Midwifery Council was told.
She was said to have ignored a monitor which repeatedly showed the unborn child had an increased heart rate.
The hearing was told that at one stage Purdue went for a walk, leaving the first-time mother unattended, and then delayed carrying out an examination on her.
