Before I start, I must point out that I am a total gadget nut, although I don’t keep up with the latest trends I do love getting a new ‘toy’ so I wasted no time getting to grips with the shiny black BlackBerry when it arrived. Well, I needed to know how it worked and set up all the apps didn’t I?
So, day one started well – I had added all my email addresses (7 of them – Coochie Cou, Yorkshire Family Show, Party Sprite, and personal ones in total?) in advance, surprisingly easy to do compared to my existing mobile – enter address, password and away you go!
The challenge coincided with half term which meant I had more demands on my time in the form of my two girls aged 6 and 4, so the BlackBerry would really be put to the test. A quick check of my emails – the handy red light at the top tells me if I have anything to read – and on with some child friendly baking.
The first thing that surprised me was the amount of time using the BlackBerry freed up. I normally sit at the laptop all day while the girls are at school and it is filled with ‘work’, but I have noticed now I actually have all my email accounts open and just fill the time using the laptop for various social networking/blogging/tweaking websites while waiting for emails to come in. Not exactly the most productive use of my time.
I really struggled with the small keypad – trying to blog or even send an email reply often resulted in some interesting spellings followed by a lot of editing so I missed the speed I can get with my laptop keyboard. I also couldn’t find a way to use publisher on the phone, and I use publisher a lot for floor plans and design.
Best find for day one – a WordPress app which allows me to blog straight from the BlackBerry.
