Leaving a job is just not an option for most people these days and with the job market not as buoyant as times past, quitting could spell financial doom.
With that in mind, recognising that you hate your job may seem like an unnecessary admission, but if you leave bad feelings to fester, you run the risk of producing poor results and feeling resentment without knowing why. Accepting that you have fallen out of love for your job could open new doors – a new career, a new business or a promotion.
Here are four sure-signs that yu really do hate your job:
Feeling sick
If the thought of going to work makes you feel nauseous then there really is a problem. Is it a bullying boss that terrifies you? Is it unsupportive, or back-stabbing work colleagues who are always looking for ways to make you look incompetent?
Maybe you hate the actual job you do, and the thought of spending any amount of hours doing makes your stomach turn.
This is a serious problem that needs to be addressed – and quickly! If possible, make a few days off work to take stock and get a plan of action together so that you can remove yourself from this unhealthy situation.
You dread going into work
We all feel a little pressure when deadlines are looming, or when a major event is taking place at work. Some people thrive on adrenaline…and others dread the pressure, or experience both at the same time.
If you start to feel like is every night before work, or in the morning as soon as you wake, then there is a problem. If your weekends are becoming a time of pain and misery because you start to panic on Saturday night and get mood swings because you know you’re a day closer to going to work, you really don’t like your job.
The question to ask is: is there anything you can change to make things better? This one requires pure honesty, so you could probably do with a second opinion from an unbiased, level-headed friend or relative so you can hopefully get the real issue and find a way to work it out.
You can’t be asked
That’s the nice way of putting it. Don’t blame wanting to stay home with the kids for this – remember why you went back to work in the first place?
If you can’t motivate yourself at work, you probably aren’t being challenged enough, and a quick win is to ask for more responsibilities at work in areas you’re interested in.

You feel abused
If you feel like nothing you do is good enough for your line manager and always get out down about every single thing you do at work then it’s no wonder you hate your job.
There are limits to how much of this type of behaviour your boss can get away with. Start reading our Careers Coach section and equip yourself with enough employment law to ruffle your line manager’s feathers.
