A recent survey found that working mums who work full time are more likely to be depressed than stay at home mums.
Since working full time means you spend most of your time awake in work and travelling to work, it’s important to be in a job that you like, otherwise if you fall in the category of working mums who are depressed, it will only exacerbate the situation.
So how do you find a new job, or a new business opportunity when you work full time?
1. Use your time wisely
Commuting time and lunch breaks are slots during the day when you are on your own and can look for work or business opportunities.
Use this time to make discreet phone calls, send emails, look for job adverts and business opportunities. If you are thinking that you won’t be able to do this because you will not have access to the internet, then look at the phone you have. If it’s not a smartphone with internet enabled, then you might as well ditch it!
2. Ditch the weekend lie-ins
Yes, we are all tired after a hectic week or work and juggling childcare, but cutting your weekend lie in and slumber by half an hour gives you time to search for and apply for jobs before anyone else has woken up! Yes, it’s a sacrifice, but it all adds up, and once you have changed your job, or your business takes off, you’ll be glad you made the effort.
3. Don’t tell colleagues you are looking for a new job
While honesty is the best policy in the workplace for most situations, this does not apply. The last thing you want to do is to make your employers think you hate your job (even though you may well do!) because they may start to make things difficult if they know that you are leaving.
4. Don’t give up!
Depending on the sector you work in, your experience and your location it can take a while to find the best career move for you. Do t get upset if other people seem to swan into jobs while it is still taking you weeks or months – everyone’s circumstances are different. Your main aim should be getting the best career move or business opportunity for you!
