Don't fail to plan, or you really are planning to fail!
Don't fail to plan, or you really are planning to fail!

Do you ever feel like your day has ended with you doing a lot of things, but not achieving anything? It’s no wonder with all the juggling us parents have to do – but it’s also no excuse…

We are living in a very demanding world, and the reality is that there is simply not enough time to do everything that we want to do in a working day, so we just need to manage the time that we do have effectively so that we can get the most out of it.

With goal setting techniques, we cfor maximise the use of your time. here are some key goal setting techniques that you can start using today to maximise your time:

1. Evaluate

What do I really want to achieve? Where do I want to go in my business or my career? What do I want to do now?

This is a goal setting technique that demands a lot of reflection on your part. it doesn’t have to be daunting though – just take some time to think about your current circumstances and what you’d like to change about them.

If you are having difficulties determining what you want to achieve in the future, a good starting point is to start from your childhood – what did you want to achieve? What did you want for your life before your children – do you still have a passion and a desire to achieve those things? Don’t be dismissive of the thoughts that come into your mind – write them down and use them in the next stage.

2. Get Real

We have dreams to reach, yes. But we can’t have everything we dreamed of in a snap second. Some things take time to achieve, and that’s ok.

the trick is to knnow when a dream is attainable and when it really is just a pipe dream. But all the same, it can be hard to get the balance right and not be pessimistic.

Know your strengths and weaknesses. Identify the things that do not support your long-term goals; this is a way of filtering ouin the distractions so you can focus on what is necessary.

3. Plan

Identify your key action points. Ask yourself, how will I go about this? What schedule or strategy should I focus on?

Planning is an important goal setting technique. An effective plan is somtehing that can successfully identify the interconnections between the short-term and the long-term goals. treat it with the same importance as the targets you are set at work and hold yourself accountable, like your boss would, if you do not achieve what you have set out to achieve. This a a good time to share your plan wi someone you trust who can spur you on, or a coach, so they can help you stay focused in achievning your goals.

Remember that “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.”

4. Focus

Sometimes, we get overwhelmed with planning and as a consequence,we can lose our focus. Try to focus on achieving one goal at a time – this is a great way to stay focused.

If you dream to be a successful writer, entrepreneur or a photographer, can you aim for it all at the same time?

The answer is yes, you can.

You won’t lose focus if you know which of your goals deserve your utmost attention and extra time. If being a writer topped the list, you can still start working on your home business and photography on the side, more like a hobby. Just remember, don’t let these hobby eat out your time for writing.

5. Monitor and Re-evaluate

In evaluating goal setting techniques, ask yourself the following: Am I on the right track? Am I on time? Which strategies are working? Which are not?

We have outlined some action steps during our planning. But we rarely take the time to think thoroughly what actions are actually needed. By re-evaluating, you will start to identify those actions that are not needed.
