Is it right to wear your pyjamas in your home office? Not if you want to make a success of your business!

Who's says homeworking means you have to look frumpy?

We have all seen the advertisements on the internet about working in your pyjamas, setting your own hours, and other things that entice us to want to work from home. But even though you aren’t going anywhere, you should still remember that you are a business person.

One of the so-called benefits most people can think of for working from home is not having to get dressed for the office. Images of being able to stay at home make-up free, in pyjamas (Notting Hill style) is enough for many people to demand their P45s!

However, this attitude (sorry to sound school matronly!) will only make your business suffer. for one thing, not making enough of an effort in the mornings will make you want to crawl back into bed and not work at all.

Instead of wearing your pyjamas, wear something that would be considered business casual. Even if you are the only one that sees what you are wearing for the day, it will make you feel like you are working instead of just doing something from home.

Friends and family tend to find it hard to get to grips with the fact that you being at home working isn’t an excuse to skive, and that you are really running a business or working from home. So, sitting around in pyjamas and slippers, while the rest of the workforce goes to work in suits and skirts won’t help your case when you want them to take your work seriously.

If you dress in business casual and someone does pop by, it will show that you are serious about your job, and that you have a ‘real job’.

It will make you feel better. When you look like a professional, you will feel like a professional as well.
