It’s a real treat to come across a young mum who has set up their own business to juggle the demands of motherhood and earning and income. Not that they don’t exist, but many young mums tend to fall into the benefit line, or stop working all together and become stereotyped.
In walks Sarah Stubbings, 25, director of Remote Assistant and mum to Hannah 17 months, Bethany 6 months. She tells Motherswhowork.co.uk, how she has established a successful business that operates during evenings, weekends and nap times and has just taken on an employee!
What work did you do before you set up your company?
I worked for East Coast Train
How did you fund the business?
It only required the cost of a laptop and a printer
Profit in first year
£15,000
What was the motivating factor for staring your own business?
I wanted to be at home with my children
What do you enjoy most about running your own business?
Being my own boss
Running a business can be a mixed bag sometimes. What have been you highs and lows so far? My high was a few months ago when I hired my first employee. A low was when my baby was in intensive care and I still had to keep the business ticking over.
How have you managed to stay on top of your career with the demands of motherhood while running a business?
I work evenings, weekends and in nap times.
Any tips for expectant mums, or mothers who feel that you can’t have a successful career and a happy family life at the same time?
You can do it! It requires hard work, dedication and a lot of focus but it is worth every moment.
