Sophie Ellis-Bextor gives birth nine weeks early due to pre-eclampsia

Singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor has given birth to her second child nine weeks premature after being struck down by a potentially deadly pregnancy condition, it emerged today.

The 29-year-old In This Ain’t Love star gave birth to a 2lb 10oz baby boy – a brother to Sonny – her former Blue Peter presenter mother Janet Ellis revealed.

It is the second pregnancy drama for Sophie who had to have an emergency caesarean at 28 weeks after being diagnosed with the potentially life-threatening condition pre-eclampsia while carrying her first child, Sonny, who is now four-years-old.
