Stand up, all those that want a less painful labour

Lying down during the early stages of labour can make childbirth more painful, researchers claim.

Women who kneel, stand up, walk around or sit upright have a significantly shorter labour and experience fewer contractions.

A review of 21 studies involving almost 4,000 women concludes there is no risk to pregnant women from standing up when they start the delivery process and it may actually be harmful to lie flat.
