The skinflint’s beauty box must have that will even polish your shoes

Don’t be disappointed that it’s nothing revolutionary – we try to keep it simple (and cheap) here at Mothers Who Work Towers. It’s cheap, and it has more uses than you can shake a stick at.

Here goes: it’s petroleum jelly – or good old Vaseline!

Perfume prolonger
We all like to smell good, but how do you keep the cost of perfume down to a minimum?  Use petroleum jelly. Just dab some on your pulse points (wrists, behind your ears, temples etc) and spray your favourite fragrance right onto it.

Shoe polish
If you love patent shoes, or can’t stand to see your children’s shoes looking less than gleaming, rub a bit of petroleum jelly on them to get them sparkling like new. Cheaper than shoe polishes that promise and fail, you’ll have your shoes looking so good you’ll see your reflection in it!

Cheap mascara
Not everyone wants to look like they have a dead bird in their eyelids with falsies. Sometimes,  au natural can do more glamour than you’d think.

Dare to try? Just dab some Vaseline in your lids and use an old mascara brush to stretch out your lashes. If you really want to go the extra mile,  dab a bit in your eyebrows and and brush into shape to keep the hairs in perfect shape all day.
