Top five professional cleaning tips

Vacuum cleaners are one of those investment buys that can be a hit or miss sometimes – especially if you don’t do your research before parting with your cash.

If you’ve bought a vacuum cleaner and can’t seem to get the best out of it, here are five tips that could help change your vacuuming experience:

Clean the brush roll
You know the part of the vacuum that does all the hard work…

Lint, thread, debris can all get clogged up in the brush roll. This means that your vacuum cleaner has to work a lot harder to pick up dirt, which can wear out the engine. Make a point of teasing out any clogs on the brush roll and your vacuum cleaner will be a lot happier – and the results will speak for themselves.

Don’t forget to remove your brush roll and lubricate it – your owner’s manual will show you how; or trust YouTube will show you. You don’t have to spend a fortune on expensive lubricants – a dab of olive oil from the kitchen cabinet will do the trick.

Rinse and repeat
One of the things that puts people off buying a vacuum that requires bags is the cost of having to replace them, but they really aren’t as expensive as you may think – you can reuse them three or four times before throwing them away. You may even  be able to buy reusable vacuum bags from the manufacturer.

Cordless vacuum cleaners
If you have young children at home, or if you like the option of using your vacuum to clean the car, or the stairs you’ll probably love the idea of using a cordless (also known as an ‘unplugged vacuum cleaner)’.

While they are great to have, you still have to show them some love. Be sure to clean the filters and compartments regularly, so that your charge can last longer. If not, like a standard plugged in vacuum cleaner, it will need to do a lot more work to pick up debris.

You can also get a head start when using a rechargeable vacuum cleaner by shaking off any dust or debris before you start, so that your vacuum cleaner can work on those harder to reach areas.

Patience is a virtue
We’re all in a rush these days, but that’s something that can hamper vacuuming. For instance, if you’re in a rush to clean before an impromptu visit from a friend or relative, you’ll probably not handle your vacuum cleaner with as a much  care as you should. Imagine the panic of finding that someone has unplugged the cordless vacuum cleaner.

Bear these things in mind when using your vacuum cleaner, and plan a cleaning schedule as far in advance as possible to help your vacuum cleaner last as long as possible.
