WordPress is twofold – you can get a free website on www.wordpress.com, or you can you it as a content management system (CMS) to run your own website on.
Using the free website on www.wordpress.com may be free, but nothing comes without a price, and there are some downsides to using the free version:
1. You don’t have your own domain name, but end up with a URL like http://yourlongwindedname.wordpress.com
2. There are limitations on what you can put on the free WordPress blog – if you want to add live chat, a forum, Google Adsense etc, you won’t be able to.
3. Your blog can be shut down at any time without any warning, and you can’t do a thing about it.
That’s why we prefer using WordPress as aCMS on your own website, because you get the benefits of a good platform, but you have control over what you do on your website, and when to shut your website down!
You can use WordPress for blogs, business websites, online stores…just about everything, and it is very easy to install and simple to use.
