Why your business needs public liability insurance this winter

Winter weather is reportedly just around the corner and the expected arrival of snow and ice has prompted a moneysupermarket public liability insurance expert to advise all UK businesses to get insurance cover or run the risk of members of the public making personal injury claims against them.

public liability insuranceThe yearly big freeze in Britain has begun to set now we’ve entered 2012 and there are fears that councils and companies from Land’s End to John o’ Groats will again simply be unable to cope as the temperatures start to plunge.

Last year’s winter proved particularly cold as temperatures in many areas of the UK dipped as low as -15 degrees Celsius and that in turn had a knock-on effect on the transport network in the UK and led to public walkways becoming dangerously slippery.

Measures are currently being taken by many county councils to prevent a repeat of the disruption on the scale witnessed last winter, which include stocking up on extra salt and grit supplies in order to keep the roads clear and the introduction of snow wardens into local communities.

However, Kaye Pimblett from moneysupermarket, the price comparison website, has stressed to business owners the importance of putting measures in place to protect themselves in case members of the public should slip, trip and fall on ice and snow and then launch legal action.
Pimblett warned: “With the cold weather on the way now is the right time to ensure you are fully covered before the bad weather hits.

“MoneySupermarket.com makes it easy for you to compare public liability quotes. You can either complete a form online or speak with one of our advisors.”

She added: “Uninsured businesses who suffer public liability claims can run up bills of tens of thousands of pounds which is enough to cripple a small business.

“Being prepared with comprehensive public liability insurance should help to cover all costs associated with a claim such as legal fees, NHS medical costs and compensation payments.”
