What drives children to suicide?

More than 4,000 under-14s tried to kill themselves in the UK last year. Bullying and not fitting in aren’t the whole story

The loss of any young life can quite rightly be marked down as a tragedy in the truest sense of the word. But when that life is apparently lost to suicide – the most unnecessary death, words cannot describe the sense of sadness, shock, disbelief and sheer incomprehension most of us feel.

Last Tuesday, news broke of the death of 14-year-old Belinda Allen, found hanging from a tree by passers-by.
