Channel 4 is making a new documentary series which aims to show how important men are in children’s upbringing. It will explore why so few men choose to work in nurseries and look at men who want to be better fathers themselves, but have no idea about what it takes.
Currently, only 2% of people working in childcare are men. Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg, made a keynote speech in June 2010, in which he highlighted this issue.
The Channel 4 series hopes to empower a nation of men to spend more time with their own kids and even inspire some to consider the childcare profession.
The idea of the show is to select four men who live in or close to LONDON to work in a rea-life nursery for three weeks, under the careful supervision of the nursery staff. The men will be carefully selected and undergo extensive checks.
Do you know any men who might like to take part in the Channel 4 series?
- They will be keen to learn more about childcare, but perhaps don’t know where to turn to. They may already be dads who want to be more hands-on, or would like to learn how to be better dads.
- Perhaps they are about to become dads for the first time and feel nervous about their new role, or would like the chance to learn the ropes?
- Maybe their own father was ‘hands-off’ when they were growing up and they don’t want to make the same mistake?
- Or, quite simply, they may be men who are considering a career in childcare themselves.
The series aims to show that childcare is a tough job (not as easy as some might think), yet a very rewarding one, suitable for both men and women.
Filming will last for three weeks from the end of February, but they need to secure our contributors before Christmas, or by mid-January at the very latest.
