Potty training a child at home can be a mixed bag, but what if a holiday comes up? Do you stop potty training, or take it with you?
We all need a holiday some time, and sometimes a deal is too good to miss on account of potty training.
But it also doesn’t have to mean that you stop potty training either, especially if your holiday comes up while when you’ve just turned the corner with potty training. Here are some tips:
1. Pack right
Most good, family-friendly hotels will have a cot for your child, but they may not supply the right mattress for potty training. Avoid accidents by packing your own organic mattress protector.
2. Pack lots of clothes
It goes without saying that you’ll pack lots of clothes for your toddler, but you’ll need even more when you’re toilet training. Leggings are great for little girls, as they don’t take up much space, and are easy to remove. Tracksuit bottoms or shorts are a good option for little boys. Accidents can spill into socks and shoes, too, so be prepared with spares.
3. Take frequent toilet breaks
If you’re driving long distance, take frequent toilet breaks and cut drinks down to a minimum. Toddlers shouldn’t be drinking fizzy drinks anyway, but if they do, cut these down to the minimum, because they can stimulate the bladder.
4. Take a portable toilet seat adapter
Practice using a portable toilet seat adapter at home before going on your hols, so your child will feel comfortable using it when you are on holiday.
