The calendar might say we’re in summer but the weather is saying something completely different. But that doesn’t have to be a complete negative. If you’ve been feeling a little body conscious, nows your chance to tone up a bit while the weather sorts itself out.
Working up is a great way to release those feel-good hormones around your body to help beat stress, tiredness and perk up your mood.
Here are three ways you can tone up with a total body workout for a tender or less:
Skipping
A personal favourite of mine! Who knew that something children in the school playground and boxers do would be a great fitness tool for busy working mums.
Unlike going for a run, or an expensive gym membership skipping is very cheap. You can buy a decent skipping rope for upwards of a couple of pounds online and you can do it in your own back garden. You don’t have to worry about who will look after the children while you work up some cardio – you can let them join in with you, or do it when they’re asleep.
Skipping also burns a lot more calories than running and is a lot less impacting on your joints, so it’s a win win all round.
Here’s a video to show you what your skipping workout could look like:

Hula hoop
Remember those good old days in the school playground when you’d hula hoop like a flexible elastic? This often sounds strange to many people but a fitness hula hoop (or a weighted hula hoop, as they are called) really works your core, so is great for muffin tops and mummy bellies.
The heavier the hula hoop, the more you have to work to keep it going, so they really do burn calories. Weights starts at around 600g to 6kg, and the heavier they are the ore expensive they are. Prices can start for just over a tender, but be sure to read reviews before you buy.

Running
Going for a jog is known to give an all-over body workout, and if you do it often enough it burns a lot of fat. Once you’re kitted out with a decent pair of running shoes you’ll be good to go. New mums can strap the baby in the buggy and get running – the fresh air will knock them out, while enjoying the ride.
