You only have to do a Google search for something like “online business” to get search pages full of websites that promise you can make a six-figure salary if you buy a product (usually an ebook, videos or a membership) of some sort.

It’s no wonder why a lot of people think that you can’t make money from working online.

But the fact is, there are millions of people making money working online – all in varying degrees, of course, but it is possible. Some run their own businesses, others provide a service on a freelance or contract basis.

And besides the monetary benefits, working online is great for mums because it enables you to work in your own home, which has even more benefits:

1. More time with the family

Because online jobs can be done at home, you can set up your own home office and maximise your non-working hours by spending time with the family. It’s great because you can get more flexibility in the way you work.

Depending on the nature of your work, working online can let you plan around your children, still do the school run and all while making money.

2. Working online gives more flexibility

Online jobs usually have flexible hours, with some even allowing you to work during non-standard working hours. While some online jobs might require you to work at specific times, most jobs leave it up to you as long as you complete projects on time and to the same standard.

3. Reduce your expenses

When you work online, and at home, you can save on travel costs, lunch expenses, and clothing costs. You may even reduce childcare costs if your online job enables you to work in your own time.

4. Improved efficiency

Working online as a business gives you that space and time to work and you’ll probably get much more work done.

It is, of course, not ideal to isolate yourself from the rest of the world. But admit it, in an office environment, you sometimes find yourself chatting with someone in the corridor, getting caught up in office politics etc, which all eat into your productivity time.

5. More job choices

There a lot of online jobs available today, from writing to bookkeeping. If you check websites like www.peopleperhour.com and www.remoteemployment.com you can see that just about every career has freelance opportunity, so check before you convince yourself that you can’t do your type of job from home, or online.

As you can see, there are many reasons for you to consider working online. You don’t have to run a business to do it – you can freelance and earn extra money if you don’t want to take the plunge…if only to test the waters.
