According to a recent survey by Vodafone, when it comes to job satisfaction, employees put flexible working far higher than more tangible benefits such as a financial stake in the business, bonus schemes and company pensions.
More than 75 per cent of the employees surveyed say flexible working boosts their job satisfaction and improves work-life balance.
Only one in five employees would seriously consider leaving their employer over the next 12 months, which means that employers have to work harder to attract the best talent into their companies.
The report, ‘Exploring the shift in employee expectations’, shows that flexible working is having a major impact on job satisfaction today, and is now considered by UK employees to be more important to than financial benefits.
The new research, based on interviews with 1,366 senior managers and employees across UK organisations of all sizes, looked into the biggest influences on job satisfaction.
The survey also reveals that work-life balance (cited by 28 per cent of respondents) is nearly as important today as basic salary (cited by 30 per cent of respondents).
